The mother of a 22-year-old man with severe food allergies who died at the Snohomish County Jail in Washington in 2012 has sued Snohomish County.
The lawsuit Rose Saffioti filed Wednesday lists as defendants the county, a corrections officer and four registered nurses.
The Daily Herald reported the complaint alleges that a lack of timely medical treatment constituted a violation of Michael Saffioti’s civil rights.
The lawsuit alleges that jail employees were well aware of Saffioti’s asthma and allergies to dairy products and failed to act promptly when he collapsed in his cell.
The lawsuit does not list the damages sought. Rose Saffioti previously filed a claim against the county that sought $10 million in damages.
Michael Saffioti had turned himself in on a misdemeanor marijuana possession warrant.
