The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for critical wildfire danger in Eastern Washington, Eastern Oregon and Northern Idaho.
Dry lighting from scattered thunderstorms could ignite dry grass and shrubs. Forecasters say strong winds, relatively low humidity and warm temperatures create the potential for explosive fire growth.
Temperatures in Eastern Washington are forecast to remain in the 90s through the week.
Temperatures in Western Washington are forecast in the 80s Tuesday and 70s by midweek after setting records Sunday: 93 at Sea-Tac Airport, 94 at Olympia and 85 at Bellingham.
Meteorologist Jay Neher in the Seattle office says marine air has pushed into Western Washington, cooling things off a bit.
