A study finds that Nevada climbed five spots, to 42nd, in an annual ranking comparing states, residents and health.
The 2011 America’s Health Rankings was released Tuesday by United Health Foundation, along with the American Public Health Association and Partnership for Prevention.
Overall, the report finds that the country’s overall health didn’t improve — and that increases in obesity, diabetes and children living in poverty are offsetting improvements in smoking cessation, premature deaths, preventable hospitalizations and cardiovascular deaths.
The Silver State ranked 47th in 2010 when compared with the health of other states.
The report puts Nevada 50th in four-year high school graduation rate, and 50th in violent crime, and 49th in immunization coverage for children ages 19 to 35 months.
