Farmers in northern Wyoming are beginning to file crop insurance claims for losses they suffered when sugar beets and other crops froze earlier this month.

Larry French of Farm Bureau Financial Services and Insurance in Powell says he has contacted nearly all his policy holders and some claims have been filed.

He says farmers have until Nov. 15 to file on a sugar beet loss and until Oct. 31 to file bean losses.

Damages are prorated based on how much crop cannot be harvested.

In Montana, officials said beet farmers appeared to have a record crop this year, and crystal sugar prices were at a 30-year high, when rain fell and left the fields muddy, delaying harvesting. Then an early freeze hit.
