Lake Oswego, Ore.-based BLIS, which provides financial services for elective (cash pay) surgery, announced its ability to offer “A” rated security on its policies for bariatric surgeons’ cash pay business. Beginning July 1, 2008, the BLISCare insurance policy will be available in most states through United Specialty Insurance Co.
BLISCare provides insurance coverage to bariatric surgeons covering the cost of complication related medical care. BLIS was founded with the support of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery, which has endorsed BLISCare. It is estimated that 30 percent of the bariatric procedures performed in the United States are cash pay.
