California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi recently announced the appointment of Sherwood “Woody” Girion as Deputy Commissioner, Consumer Services & Market Conduct Branch, effective Aug. 16, 2004.
Girion brings more than 27 years of experience at the Department to his new role. In 1983, he was charged with establishing the first Consumer Services Bureau, which eventually grew into today’s Consumer Services & Market Conduct Branch. Since joining the Department in 1977, Girion has also served as Chief of the Financial Analysis Reinsurance and Technical Support Bureau, and as Chief of the Financial Analysis Division, responsible for evaluating the financial strength of companies operating in California.
