Catholic Healthcare West (CHW) has awarded a multi-year contract to the Cooperative of American Physicians, Inc.-Mutual Protection Trust (CAP-MPT) to resolve legal claims remaining after CHW’s recent divestiture of seven California hospitals.
After terminating insurance operations for the seven hospitals, CHW selected CAP-MPT as a third party claims administrator (TPA).
While the total number of claims referred from CHW to CAP-MPT is confidential, the vast majority are in the area of medical malpractice, with some general liability cases as well. CHW sold the group of claims to a reinsurer, which agreed to having claims management handled by CAP-MPT.
Established in 1977, CAP-MPT provides liability protection for the medical practices of more than 6,800 California physicians.
