New Jersey’s Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman announced the appointment of Christopher Iu to be the state’s acting insurance fraud prosecutor.

Iu succeeds Ron Chillemi who is joining law firm Robins Kaplan LLP as a partner in New York. Chillemi has served as acting insurance fraud prosecutor since 2011.

Iu joined the New Jersey attorney general’s office in 2011, serving first as special assistant and later as deputy chief of staff to the attorney general. Prior to that, Iu was assistant prosecutor in the Essex County prosecutor’s office in New Jersey. He also has served as a liaison with the governor’s policy office and other departments in state government.

The insurance fraud prosecutor in New Jersey oversees the investigation of all types of insurance fraud, and serves as the focal point for investigations of insurance and Medicaid fraud in the state. The insurance fraud prosecutor supervises a staff of 125 attorneys, investigators, and support personnel.
