Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker plans to appoint Daniel Judson, the current president of Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers (CAR), the state’s industry-operated residual market and statistical agent for auto insurance, as the next commissioner of insurance, according to a report from the Massachusetts Association of Insurance Agents (MAIA).
Judson would succeed Joseph Murphy who stepped down from the post in December to join Boston-based medical professional liability insurer Coverys as its chief operating officer.
Judson has been serving as president of Commonwealth Automobile Reinsurers since 2011. His prior experiences include serving as the compliance manager at Coverys and a partner with the law firm of Morrison Mahoney LLP. Judson also worked for a number of years at the Massachusetts Division of Insurance in a variety of positions including counsel, deputy commissioner and general counsel.
