Thunderstorms that blew through the New York metropolitan area knocked down tress, power lines and caused some flight delays.
Thousands of customers on Long Island, Westchester and Rockland counties lost power during Wednesday night’s storms. Most of the power was restored by Thursday.
On Long Island, the roof of a 1932 gazebo at Morgan Memorial Park in Glen Cove caved in as three fishermen took shelter under it. One suffered injuries and was taken to a hospital. At one point after the storm rumbled through on Wednesday, about 22,000 residents in parts of Long Island were without power.
Authorities say a tree came down on a car in Glen Cove, trapping a woman inside. She was taken to a hospital suffering from neck and back pain.
The storm also caused departures of up to two hours at the area’s airports.
