A new poll says almost three of every four Connecticut voters support legislation requiring seat belts on school buses in the state.
The Quinnipiac University survey released Thursday says the proposal has strong support across party lines and in all areas of the state.
Connecticut legislators are expected this spring to consider a proposed requirement for seat belts on new buses, and possibly to order school districts to retrofit their fleets. About 500,000 children ride on Connecticut school buses each day.
The proposal came after a 16-year-old boy died in a bus crash Jan. 9 on Interstate 84 in Hartford.
Quinnipiac’s poll of 1,594 registered voters was conducted between Jan. 14 and 19, and has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
