A new associate’s degree program is being offered at a community college in New Jersey to prepare students for work in the insurance industry.
The program at Mercer County Community College in Trenton was developed in cooperation with the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New Jersey (IIABNJ), and includes the trade group’s pre-licensing property and casualty on-line insurance course, as well as three courses from the American Institute of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter.
The Insurance and Financial Services option of the Management program teaches insurance terminology and concepts, commonly used skills and tools and common problems and resolutions in insurance coverage.
IIABNJ Chairwoman Jacki Frank said the program is extremely important to the insurance industry, adding that “there is a shortage of new talent in the insurance field, a scarcity of bright young men and women to lead our businesses through the next three or four decades… We must show these young minds the vast opportunities that exist for them in insurance — careers for a wide variety of skill sets and personality types, careers that are interesting, lucrative and fun.”
