Connecticut officials say the federal government is rejecting a request for aid for homeowners for storm damage that included a tornado on June 26.

State officials say that preliminary damage information shows the state is not expected to be eligible, falling short of the threshold for federal funds.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell’s office says the state is continuing to try to make a case for small businesses affected by the severe thunderstorms and high winds.

The National Weather Service confirmed there was a tornado in Wethersfield, packing winds between 80 and 90 mph, knocking out power and uprooting trees.

The strong storms also produced hail and damaging wind that pulled trees down onto power lines throughout much of Farmington.
