Virginia State Police issued citations for nearly 8,300 violations on Interstates 95 and 81 as part of a weekend traffic-enforcement campaign.

State police say troopers stopped 2,077 speeders and 240 reckless drivers on I-81 and 4,749 speeders and 504 reckless drivers on I-95 on Friday and Saturday. On each interstate, six motorists were charged with drunken driving, and a total 35 felony drug arrests were made on both roads. They also issued 330 safety-belt violations. Other violations weren’t specified.

The weekend’s Operation Air, Land and Speed campaign yielded the third-highest number of violations since the effort began in 2006.
