A lengthy investigation has led Bridgeport, Connecticut officials to fire four city fire department inspectors.
Officials say the fire inspectors lost their jobs after the investigation allegedly found that they spent workdays visiting friends, taking care of rental properties and spending time at home and doughnut shops.
Fire Department officials used readouts from Global Positioning System units in the inspectors’ new city-owned minivans.
Officials say the GPS devices revealed that the four were spending much of their time at unassigned addresses, often for hours on end.
In records released after a Freedom of Information request by the Connecticut Post, the four were also found to have violated a long list of department regulations.
