A former Frederick County Sheriff’s Deputy will avoid jail time for setting fire to his girlfriend’s sport utility vehicle in alleged insurance scheme.
Thirty-eight-year-old Theodore Randolph Dorsey of Knoxville, Md. was given a suspended sentence Wednesday for his conviction on a charge of second-degree arson. He was ordered to serve six months on home detention, two years probation and must pay a $1,000 fine.
Dorsey was arrested in September 2006 while he was a sergeant with the sheriff’s office. He was suspended without pay.
Prosecutors say Dorsey set fire to the vehicle with the intention of using the insurance payment to buy another vehicle.
