The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP) released the following statement by President and CEO Carolyn F. Scanlan in response to the release of a report, prepared by the The Project on Medical Liability in Pennsylvania, entitled “Understanding Pennsylvania’s Medical Malpractice Crisis.”
“The Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania appreciates the addition of this independent study to the body of data on the medical liability insurance climate in the state,” Scanlon stated. “The findings of this new study demonstrate that Pennsylvania has a serious medical liability insurance crisis. We agree with the authors that short-term economic relief is needed to keep physicians in the state and that additional long-term reforms need to be instituted.
“These solutions are necessary to keep physicians practicing, maintain hospital services, and assure Pennsylvanians’ continued access to health care,” she concluded.
