Job Description
The Senior Claims Consultant – Mass Tort & Environmental Claims is responsible for independently managing complex, legacy runoff claims arising from historical excess liability policies. This role focuses on asbestos, environmental, talc, PFAS, and other long latency mass tort exposures, requiring advanced coverage analysis, strategic claims handling, and strong legal and financial judgment.
This position operates within a highly specialized team and supports claims across multiple U.S. jurisdictions and Canada.

Compensation
Compensation offered for this role is 80,000.00 - 136,625.00 annually and is based on experience and qualifications.

The Senior Claims Consultant – Mass Tort & Environmental Claims is responsible for independently managing complex, legacy runoff claims arising from historical excess liability policies. This role focuses on asbestos, environmental, talc, PFAS, and other long latency mass tort exposures, requiring advanced coverage analysis, strategic claims handling, and strong legal and financial judgment.
This position operates within a highly specialized team and supports claims across multiple U.S. jurisdictions and Canada.
Key Responsibilities
Complex Coverage & Claims Handling
- Independently analyze and apply CGL, umbrella, and excess policy language, including historical policy forms, to assess coverage for complex claims.
- Manage legacy runoff claims tied to policies issued primarily in the 1970s–mid‑1980s with significant aggregate exposure.
- Evaluate underlying facts, jurisdiction‑specific law, and long‑latency issues to determine coverage positions and claims strategy.
Mass Tort, Asbestos & Environmental Claims
- Handle complex asbestos bodily injury, talc, environmental contamination, PFAS, and other mass tort claims.
- Assess environmental exposure scenarios including soil, groundwater, and contamination cleanup claims.
- Manage claims involving large commercial and industrial insureds with substantial liability exposure.
Litigation & Dispute Resolution
- Manage litigated matters including coverage actions filed against Allstate.
- Coordinate with internal and external counsel on litigation strategy.
- Participate in mediations, arbitrations, and negotiations and serve as a witness when required.
Financial Oversight & Strategy
- Establish, document, and adjust case reserves and financial projections.
- Develop and execute action plans.
- Provide clear analysis and recommendations.
Caseload & Documentation Management
- Maintain thoroughly documented claim files, ensuring compliance with internal guidelines.
- Effectively manage a complex and diverse caseload.
Systems, Technology & Operational Effectiveness
- Work across multiple claims systems.
- Adapt to evolving technology and AI‑supported workflows within the claim’s organization.
- Demonstrate strong written communication and analytical skills.
Qualifications
Experience
- 3+ years of experience handling mass tort, asbestos, environmental, or other long‑latency claims preferred.
- Prior experience with complex coverage analysis, excess policies, or legacy runoff portfolios strongly preferred.
- Experience handling multi‑jurisdictional claims across the U.S. and/or Canada.
