California topped the ranking for the states with the fewest fire departments per 100,000 people, a new study shows.
The study out this week shows California tied with Florida, and Nevada ranking second and Arizona ranking third.
The report, commissioned by firecashbuyers.com, analyzed data from the U.S Fire Administration on the number of fire departments in each state. That number was weighted against the population to determine which states have the fewest departments per 100,000 people, as well as those that have the most.
It showed California and Florida had 2.15 fire departments per 100,000 people. Nevada had 2.8 fire departments per 100,000, while Arizona had 3.3 fire departments. Washington (5.2), Colorado (5.3) and Utah (5.8) were other Western U.S. states on the list with fewest fire departments per 100,000 people.
North Dakota (41.9) had the most fire departments in U.S. per 100,000 people, the report showed.
