The family of a couple killed in 2013 by a drunk driver has settled with the city of Seattle for $13 million.
The family of Dennis and Judy Schulte settled with the city. Prosecutors say Mark Mullan was drunk when his pickup hit the Schulte family as they were crossing a road. Dennis and Judy Schulte were killed in the crash, and their daughter-in-law and her newborn baby were severely injured.
Court records show Mullan was arrested five times for DUI before the deadly crash. At the time, he was on probation for a DUI conviction and should not have been driving without an interlock device on his truck.
The city said the settlement will allow it and the family “to avoid the uncertainty of trial.”
