Votes counted from Tuesday’s special election show that Cy Sun, a Washington area mayor, will be recalled on July 9 when the election is certified, likely removing from office a man who many blamed for endangering the insurance coverage for his city.
Two thirds of the votes already counted favor removing the mayor of Pacific, .
The recall asked voters whether he should be removed from office because Sun used police as a personal investigation squad and he jeopardized the town’s insurance by not filling department-head vacancies.
During his 1-months tenure, Sun forced three police chiefs and other department heads out of office, and was arrested while trying to enter the city clerk’s office. The turmoil led to some $11鈥塵illion in lawsuits against the town, which has an annual budget of $15鈥塵illion, according to the Times.
