The Idaho State Board of Education has decided to keep its requirement that full-time public college and university students have health insurance.
The Lewiston Tribune reported that the board on Wednesday decided to reject a request by some schools to suspend the rule for a year because of sharp increases in insurance premiums.
The board says that the risk of having uninsured students outweighs the increased costs.
Officials at Lewis-Clark State College saw a premium increase of 38.1 percent, Idaho State University a 46.5 percent increase, and Boise State University a 30.9 percent increase.
The University of Idaho saw only a 5 percent increase.
