Orange County supervisors have approved a proposed $362,000 settlement for an improperly fired ex-assistant sheriff.
City News Service says supervisors approved the deal with George Jaramillo on Tuesday.
A California appeals court ruled in November that Jaramillo was entitled to lost wages and retirement income because he was fired in 2004 by then-Sheriff Michael Carona without an administrative probable cause hearing.
The county had argued Jaramillo wasn’t entitled to an administrative hearing because he was charged with perjury and misappropriation of public funds.
Jaramillo, who pleaded no contest to the charges, helped federal prosecutors investigate Carona, who is serving a 5 1/2-year sentence for witness tampering.
