Thomas Newgarden has joined Seattle-based Safeco as senior vice president of underwriting for Safeco Personal Insurance.
Previously, Newgarden was senior vice president and chief underwriting officer of AIG Private Client Group. With 20 years experience leading product development and underwriting, Newgarden has a comprehensive background growing new product lines in both hard and soft market cycles. At Safeco, he will have profit-and-loss responsibility for personal product lines, including design, pricing and underwriting.
During Newgarden’s tenure at AIG, he helped grow the company’s suite of personal lines high net worth products and markets to close to $1 billion. Under his direction, the underwriting team introduced predictive models and credit scoring unique to the high net worth segment. Earlier in his career, Newgarden served in actuarial capacities for Response Insurance Company and the Insurance Services Office (ISO).
