Peter J. O’Shaughnessy, 61, of Bermuda Dunes, Calif., former chairman of the board at Trinity E&S, who formed Exstar Financial Services and Westcap Insurance Services, died Feb. 21 from complications arising from cancer.
O’Shaughnessy’s insurance career commenced in the 1960s where he spent the early part of his career with Fireman’s Fund. He then started his own company in the mid 1970s, and over the next three decades, built a number of companies, culminating in his move to Solvang, Calif.
O’Shaughnessy will be remembered as a pioneer and non-traditionalist in the business, creating policy forms and underwriting strategies, that many organizations are today emulating.
He is survived by his wife Rhena Pepper O’Shaughnessy, two daughters, three stepsons and six grand-children.
