A Fair Oaks, Calif. woman was arrested as a result of an investigation by the California Department of Insurance Criminal Investigations Branch’s Fraud Division.
Shauna M. Lewis, 28, was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on one felony count of insurance fraud. Bail was set at $30,000.
According to investigators, Lewis became involved in a traffic collision on Dec. 14, 2001, at approximately 1:55 p.m. She indicated to the other party that she had auto insurance with Infinity Insurance, which in fact had been cancelled. At 2:45 p.m., 50 minutes after the accident, Lewis purchased an insurance policy from Western General Insurance Company, then shortly afterwards she reported the above accident and indicated that it had occurred on Dec. 14, 2001, at 3:30 p.m.
If convicted, Lewis could face up to five years in state prison and/or a maximum fine of $50,000. The Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the case.
