A recent poll conducted by the Los Angeles Times revealed Democratic Insurance Commissioner candidate John Garamendi is leading the race with 51 percent of voters likely to cast their ballot towards him.
Republican candidate Gary Mendoza garnered 29 percent of the vote, with 19 percent undecided and one percent likely to vote for a different candidate altogether.
The Times attributed Garamendi’s lead to name recognition as a California elected official and his previous experience in the office of Insurance Commissioner.
Garamendi rallied a little over three quarters of Democratic vote, and 20 percent of Republican, while Mendoza brought in 62 percent of the Republican vote and seven percent Democrat.
Kevin Spillane, Mendoza campaign consultant, stated in a press release, “The Los Angeles Times poll released on the down-ballot candidates for statewide office in California is inaccurate and irresponsible. California political folklore now has an even bigger mistake than Mervin Field’s infamous prediction on Election Night/1982 of a Tom Bradley victory.”
