August 27, 2025

A North Carolina woman was sentenced to as much as 12 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to setting six fires in Onslow County, on the state’s southeast coast.

Chasity Dawn Keeter, 37, of Jacksonville, pleaded guilty to five counts of arson, two counts of burning personal property and one count of animal cruelty, Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey said in a statement this week. North Carolina Department of Insurance investigators were asked to look into the crimes in 2023.

The investigation began in 2018 after six suspicious fires were reported in Onslow County, including Keeter’s own mobile home. The woman lived on Fire Tower Road at the time, according to the Fayetteville Observer .

It’s not the first time Keeter has been in trouble. In 2004, she was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, as well as arson and trespassing, the news site reported.
