Sanjeev Chaudhuri, the former chief actuary at Alfa Insurance, is the new chief actuary for the Alabama Department of Insurance, the DOI announced this week.
Chaudhuri has more than 20 years of experience in property-casualty insurance, life insurance and accident and health, and is a fellow of the Society of Actuaries. He has worked in all areas of actuarial science, including rate filings, reserving, compliance, audit and examination support, the DOI said in a news release. He holds a master’s degree in statistics from Ohio State University and a master’s in mathematics from Bowling Green State University.
Chaudhuri is the second official in recent days to move from Alfa, one of the largest insurers in Alabama, to the DOI. Last week, the department announced that Larry Chapman Jr., recently an agent with Alfa in Montgomery, will be the new deputy insurance commissioner.
Chapman fills the spot left vacant by Mark Fowler, who was named commissioner after longtime department head Jim Ridling retired in July 2022.
