An airport worker in Montgomery, Alabama, was killed Saturday when he was sucked into the engine of a plane.
Local and state news said the ground crew worker, whose name has not been released, was ingested into the engine of a parked but running American Airlines jet operated by regional carrier Envoy Air. The flight, slated for Dallas, was canceled and the airport was closed temporarily after the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating, officials said.
Ingestion incidents are rare, but do happen. An aircraft technician in India was killed in 2015, according to news reports from the time. A similar incident happened in El Paso, Texas, that same year.
