Fred is forecasted to bring tropical storm conditions in portions of Florida Saturday according to a National Hurricane Center Aug. 13 update.
The Keys, southern and central Florida could see between three to six inches of rain as the storm approaches the southwestern edge of the state.
A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the Keys west of Ocean Reef to the Dry Tortugas as well as Florida Bay. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the southwest coast of Florida from Englewood south and east to Ocean Reef.
At 5:00 p.m. EST Friday, the center of Fred was about 210 miles southeast of Key West. The storm was carrying sustained winds of 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. The NHC forecasts little strength in the storm’s strength Friday night.
Fred will bring a risk of isolated tornadoes beginning Saturday afternoon in parts of central and south Florida.
