West Virginia regulators say a 43-year-old coal miner has been killed on the job.
The Office of Miners’ Health, Safety and Training says shuttle car operator Ronald R. Taylor of Belington died of head injuries when he was struck by a steel object in the roadway Tuesday during transport at the Carter Roag Coal Co.’s Morgan Camp Mine in Randolph County.
State inspectors are investigating.
A call to the company went unanswered Wednesday.
Taylor is the third coal mining death in the state this year. Two others died in February. According to the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the only other coal mining deaths reported this year were one apiece in Indiana and Kentucky.
