North Carolina’s floodplain mapping officials have approved an appeal of severe flood zone restrictions for a beach town, meaning property owners may save some money.
The StarNews of Wilmington reports the N.C. Floodplain Mapping Program approved the appeal from New Hanover County for Wrightsville Beach property owners.
Wrightsville Beach appealed a state decision to designate several areas as having a 1 percent or greater chance of flooding in a year. Other areas were designated as having less than a 1 percent chance of flooding.
Town manager Tim Owens says the new designation could be in place by the end of the year after a public hearing and if the changes meet federal regulations.
