Florida-based homeowners insurance provider, Security First Insurance Co., has promoted Melissa Burt DeVriese to chief administrative officer. DeVriese will also retain her title of general counsel.
With this promotion, DeVriese is responsible for administrative and corporate governance matters, real estate and facilities, and human resources. She oversees security, organizational development, and compliance departments.

“As our premium grows toward the $500 million mark, we are required to meet certain regulatory requirements and Melissa is well-suited to lead the development of the company’s new compliance department. In her new role, she will also now oversee human resources, executive administration, and the company’s plan to build and move into a new headquarters in Volusia County within the next three years,” said Locke Burt, chairman and president, Security First Insurance.
DeVriese began her career working as an associate attorney at Foley & Lardner, LLP. She served as legislative counsel to U.S. Representative Sam Graves and was the primary attorney to the General Counsel for the U.S. Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C. DeVriese holds a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from University of Miami as well as a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center.
