Twenty-five dogs have died in North Carolina after a kennel caught fire.
No. 7 Township Fire Chief Travis Blalock tells local media that the fire started just before 4 a.m. Monday at Lynaire Kennels and Crematory in New Bern, a city near the coast. Half of the building was on fire when firefighters arrived.
Blalock says 25 dogs died in the fire, but 20 other dogs and all of the cats were saved. The surviving pets were transferred to another boarding facility nearby.
Authorities believe the fire may have started in a storage room where computers and phones were.
The State Bureau of Investigation has been called to help investigate.
