
Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin M. McCarty was presented with the Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies (LAAIA) “Insurance Man of the Year” Award on Dec. 4.
According to the Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (OIR), the award was presented to McCarty in recognition of his many years of service and contributions to the insurance industry, including for technological innovations to enhance the regulatory process, efforts on Personal Injury Protection (PIP) reform, the recovery of more than $110 million over the last two years for Florida policyholders as a result of life insurance claim settlements, and the depopulation of Citizens Property Insurance Corporation.
LAAIA provides continuing education; legislative advocacy; representation on national advisory councils; monthly networking events; and community outreach. The association also holds annual insurance convention and trade fair in South Florida. Currently, LAAIA members manage over $1 billion in premiums.
