The Alabama Supreme Court has upheld a $15 million verdict over a wreck that killed a 13-year-old boy.
Al.com reports the court didn’t issue an opinion explaining its decision when it was issued Nov. 20.
The verdict was returned in 2013 against a Bessemer convenience store and its owner for selling alcohol to an underage driver.
Thirteen-year-old Drew Robertson died in a wreck and three others were hurt. The family of the four sued after the crash, which happened in 2007 in Tuscaloosa County.
Jurors ruled against Nineteenth Street Investments, former owners of the 14th Street BP in Bessemer. The teen’s mother was awarded $7 million and others received less.
The lawsuits were filed under Alabama’s Dram Shop Act, which allows lawsuits against stores or restaurants that sell alcohol to minors.
