Georgia education officials say they’re working with the state health department to make sure ice cream products that were recently recalled aren’t being served in schools.
Department of Education spokesman Matt Cardoza said in a statement that the Georgia Department of Public Health is working with schools and school districts to remove Blue Bell products from campuses.
Blue Bell recalled all of its products on April 20 because of listeria contamination. Listeria is typically found in soil and water and can be carried by animals or spread by employees not using proper sanitation practices. The Food and Drug Administration is investigating the cause of the contamination.
Cardoza says Department of Public Health inspectors are checking for the recalled products during scheduled school food service reviews.
