Insurance agent Amneris Deleon, of Wilmington, N.C., was arrested and charged with one count each of embezzlement by an insurance agent and accessing a computer to defraud or obtain property.
Department of Insurance criminal investigators accuse Deleon鈥攖he owner and operator of ADE Multiservice in Wilmington鈥攐f collecting approximately $1,200 from a customer over the course of eight months for a worker’s compensation policy that did not exist. Investigators allege that Deleon created a fraudulent document to make it appear as if a valid policy existed.
Deleon was arrested on Jan. 30 in New Hanover County and released on a $2,500 bond.
The Department of Insurance employs 20 sworn state law enforcement officers dedicated to investigating and prosecuting claims of insurance and bail bonding fraud.
