The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down for a mile-and-a-half in Orangeburg County earlier this week.
The Times and Democrat of Orangeburg said the tornado, with winds of up to 85 mph, touched down near Bowman on Monday night.
It cut a path about 75 yards wide. No structures were damaged but a number of trees were uprooted.
The weather service reported that it was an EF0 tornado, the weakest of tornadoes. Officials said it was just about a year ago that at EF1 tornado hit near the same area.
