Behold the ambu-bus.
Authorities in Kentucky are making use of old school buses by turning them into ambulances. Each one can carry up to 18 patients, which officials say will be of great help in case of a major accident or disaster.
The Kentucky Hospital Association is helping with the conversions through a grant program. Counties must buy the buses, but the association will help pay to convert them into ambulances.
Maj. Randy Harris is with Mercy Regional Emergency Medical Service. Harris told The Paducah Sun that he envisions the ambulance bus being for large-scale evacuations or in wrecks that involve a large number of people, such as one a few years ago involving a tour bus.
