A court in Lexington, Kentucky, has ruled that a nursing home should pay more than $1 million to a resident who was severely injured in a fall in an equipment storage room.
Irene Hendrix was in her late 80s and had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease when she was found badly injured in January 2009. She was taken to a hospital where doctors found broken facial bones and bleeding in Hendrix’s brain, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.
The incident occurred at Cambridge Place Nursing Home.
A Fayette County Circuit Court jury deliberated for about two hours Monday and then awarded Hendrix $1 million for pain and suffering plus medical costs of more than $27,000.
The defense told jurors the nursing staff followed the care plan for Hendrix.
