Tennessee officials said two fires at the same house in Carter County on the same night had different causes.
Firefighters went to Carol Dean Fields’ house Monday evening when flames broke out in a bedroom. Officials said the fire started because a clothing iron was left unattended.
Carter County Sheriff’s Department investigator Brad Johnson said the second fire hours later was caused by a candle. A lighted candle had been left on a window sill in another bedroom and it fell onto a bed, igniting the blankets and mattress. The second fire caused smoke and heat damage throughout the house.
