The state Department of Public Safety is opening offices in Tuscaloosa and Birmingham to help Alabamians whose driver’s licenses and non-driver identification cards were lost in the tornadoes April 27.
The offices opened Tuesday at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa and Boutwell Auditorium in Birmingham to provide temporary documents. A department spokesman says the offices will be open from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day through Saturday.
Only people from areas hit by tornadoes will be eligible to receive duplicate or renewed driver’s licenses or ID cards.
The department says two form of identification will be required, such as birth certificates, Social Security cards, marriage licenses, U.S. passports, military ID cards, certified school records, or a photo ID issued by a school.
