Florida wildlife officials are imposing restrictions on use of some Everglades recreation areas due to increased risk of fire.
The Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission decided Tuesday to prohibit motor vehicles, motorcycles, airboats and campfires in parts of Broward and Palm Beach counties. The order affects the Everglades Wildlife Management Area’s northern sections and all of the Francis S. Taylor and Rotenberger wildlife management areas.
Vehicles still will be allowed access along several canal levees to access boat ramps used for fishing.
Officials say water levels are extremely low throughout the Everglades. The prohibitions are necessary to reduce possible wildfires started by human activities.
The new regulations will be in effect until they are rescinded by a subsequent order.
