Vicksburg officials hope to attract one or more taxi companies as the city prepares to relaunch local cab service.
The city has been without taxi service for nearly a year.
Jim Stirgus Jr., president of the recently re-formed Vicksburg Public Transportation Board, tells the Vicksburg Post that three prospective startup cab companies have met with the board.
The last cab company closed in July 2009. Its owners cited costly insurance requirements under a 2003 city ordinance and increased competition by a local minibus system.
The ordinance requires cab companies to carry at least $75,000 in insurance for injury or death, and $150,000 for each accident or damage to property.
Former operators said that can cost as much as $1,000 per month, per cab.
