The mental competency of a former Kentucky lawmaker accused of killing his ex-fiancee, a state insurance examiner, was to be reviewed at a hearing Monday afternoon in Lexington.
Former state Rep. Steve Nunn was ordered to undergo a mental evaluation to determine whether he is competent to assist in his defense.
Police have accused Nunn of shooting 29-year-old Amanda Ross multiple times last Sept. 11 outside her Lexington home. He has pleaded not guilty to a murder charge.
Ross was director of financial standards and examination for the state insurance department.
Fayette County Circuit Judge Pamela Goodwine had said Nunn would join the competency hearing by phone.
Nunn’s attorney has raised concerns about the ex-lawmaker’s ability to assist in his own defense. Nunn is the son of former Kentucky Gov. Louie Nunn.
