Beginning drivers in West Virginia will soon face new restrictions ranging from when they can be out to when they can be pulled over.
Although the new rules won’t go into effect until July 10, Division of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Joe Miller is reminding teenagers to get ready for the changes.
Starting July 10, intermediate drivers can only drive unsupervised between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m., one hour earlier than the old rules allowed.
They’ll also face new restrictions on driving with people under the age of 20.
The law banning intermediate drivers and those with instruction permits from using handheld cell phones will become a primary offense. That will allow police to ticket them even if they aren’t violating another traffic law.
