Two West Virginia women were indicted earlier this month on one felony count each of worker’s compensation insurance fraud.
If convicted, Erin Chinn and Robin Bird of Cabell County, W. Va., face one to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000, according to Insurance Commissioner, Jane L. Cline.
Chinn, 28, of Huntington, W. Va., filed a claim with BrickStreet Mutual Insurance Co. for an injury she allegedly suffered on the job; however, she allegedly never worked for the company she filed the claim against. Chinn was indicted Sept. 17 on the felony charge of filing a false insurance claim.
Bird, 52, of Milton, W. Va., allegedly filed for and received worker’s compensation benefits for re-injuring her back while working for Walmart; however the injury is believed to have happened during a dance contest.
Walmart is self-insured for worker’s compensation benefits. Bird was indicted Sept. 17 on the felony charge of receiving worker’s compensation benefits under false pretenses.
