A project in Monongalia County is the first to receive a stormwater infrastructure loan from the state’s Clean Water State Revolving Fund since the fund was created by the Legislature in 2001, the state Department of Environmental Protection said.
The $9 million project is designed to improve water quality and reduce potential flooding. It includes stormwater improvement, restoration, and stabilization.
The DEP issued the $8.5 million loan to Morgantown for the Burroughs Run and Poponoe Run Stormwater Project in the Monongahela River watershed.
Remaining costs will be paid with grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the state Department of Transportation, along with Morgantown’s local share.
The project is expected to be completed in March 2008, the DEP said Friday.
